Drag Rescue Device Standard on all NFPA 1971 Coats
Every NFPA 1971, 2007 Edition turnout coat has Lion’s Fire Fighter Recovery Harness™, also known as the Drag Rescue Device (DRD). The DRD features a Kevlar® webbing installed between the outer shell and thermal liner of the coat. It has a hand loop that exits the outer shell through a reinforced slot on the back of the coat just below the collar.
Once deployed, the DRD provides mechanical leverage for dragging a downed and incapacitated structural fire fighter from a life-threatening environment. The DRD enables the rescuer to drag the downed fire fighter in line with the axis of the fire fighter’s skeletal frame, in order to decrease the risk of injury.
Note: Do NOT use the DRD for lifting or lowering
a person on a lifeline or emergency escape. Using the harness for unintended
purposes may result in bodily injury or death.
